Our work by service: Sustainability

Innovative use of materials, different forms of construction, low energy systems, re-cycling and methods of procurement are some of the issues taken into consideration, in achieving our aim to help our clients create long term cost savings and sustainable solutions.

Pellings Designers and Project Managers are involved in projects where sustainability issues are at the forefront of the design process. Issues need to be addressed on a whole project basis from early design to detailed advice for building users.

Increasingly, sustainable development criteria are being introduced to the planning process and our in-house Town Planners are able to advise and work closely with clients to ensure project proposals meet the requirements of the Local Authority.

The practice encourages an approach which will meet present needs without affecting future generations.

Project: New MMC classroom block
Image of a section of building

This project comprises the construction of a new 8 classroom block as Hayes School. After some consideration, it was decided to adopt a modular solution to reduce the disruption to the School and because of the sustainability benefits this type of construction affords. They include factory construction which optimises material usage and minimises waste, enables the building to be built in controlled conditions allowing low air permeability rates to be achieved and eliminating thermal bridging. Reduction in the use of cement in construction and the use of more sustainable materials minimising vehicle movements for both labour and materials by delivering the modules complete were other advantages.
